Let all who are simple come in here! she says to those who lack judgment. Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed. Leave your simple ways and you will LIVE; walk in the way of understanding. Proverbs 9:4-6
Last Sunday as I sat in church listening to the preacher, I heard the Lord put these words into my heart; SEEK ME. Of course I knew exactly what He was asking of me. For a long while I have allowed my ways to be simple. I have allowed the ways of the world to dictate to me, to define me, to lure me into conforming to their way of thinking and doing things.
To my simple heart the Lord spoke once again…. SEEK ME. You need food… MY ETERNAL WORD, You need drink…MY SPIRIT. I have to make a choice to leave my simple ways….and make another choice to walk in the way of understanding. You and I are invited to join the club of WISDOM FOR SEEKERS….and yes….YOU and I will LIVE.
Set up road signs; put up guideposts. Take note of the highway, the road that you take. Return, O Virgin Israel, return to your towns. Jeremiah 31:21
John 3:8 The WIND blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of THE SPIRIT.
Last night, as I put my head down to sleep, I heard the Lord speak gently into my spirit. “THE WIND IS CHANGING.” Let me explain a bit. You see, sometime at the end of November last year, our landlady came with this unexpected announcement. Our house…where we moved in on our wedding night…and where our daughter has called home was soon going to be sold. Suddenly, our lives were turned upside down. For one…renting a house in our town is almost an impossible affair. Most houses are built for sale…and rarely do you find a house for rent. Secondly, because of the scarcity of rental houses, those available are at exaggerated rates.
But earlier in September, we had began thinking of looking for our own house to buy and settle down. We had an eye on a particular house…and the excitement was getting on as we prepared to get things moving in the right direction. Then…again, quite unexpectedly, the plans to relocate were soon interrupted. God closed the doors on us. Yes…the time for CHANGE was here but THE WIND OF CHANGE was not. Finally, when our landlady gave us notice of three months to move out…something happened to both of us, my husband and I at the same time. It was as if God had been waiting for this ONE MOMENT in time for a long time. Without a a long discussion or compromise, we knew that NOW…was the time for us to move out. Not out of our house…but rather to move on with THE WIND OF CHANGE.Continue reading →
Tomorrow is my husband’s birthday. It will be the 8th birthday we will be CELEBRATING together…as a couple and now, as a family. His birthday is made up of many fine and treasured memories of our times together. The Lord has been gracious…oh, yes…too gracious. Like David, I REMEMBER and in prayer I ask;
‘WHO AM I, LORD GOD, AND WHAT IS MY FAMILY, that You have brought me this far? And as if this were not enough in Your sight, O GOD, You have spoken about the future of the house of Your servant. You have looked on me as though I was the most exalted of me, O God. 1 Chronicles 17:16-17
Our past….has been MEMORABLE Our present...is PALATABLE Our future…will be INCREDIBLE
I met my husband almost 8 years ago while he was a missionary brother in the Catholic congregation of the CONVENTUAL FRANCISCANS FRIARS...whose founder was ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI in the 12th Century. On that first birthday together, I gave him a little book with beautiful proverbs and sayings unaware that 8 years down the road…some of the words in that little book who come to pass…in ways unimaginable. Today, I just picked up my Polish ID which now identifies me as a rightful and lawful citizen of this country, Poland. It is strange, but when I got the identity card, I felt a JOY OF SORTS. But why do I say that? Because a couple of years back, after I had qualified to become a citizen of this country under the Polish marriage act, I resisted the idea. On one hand, I wasn’t yet ready to disconnect from my roots, while on the other, there was need for me to be a part of where God had placed me, that is, at my husband’s side. Then something happened in early November, last year that made my decision…either way inevitable. A decision had to be made…and made quickly. When I finally made the decision to give up my country’s citizenship…which is the requirement before you become a Polish citizen, I felt a strange relief and peace.
After what has been a four month process…today…I get the TANGIBLE EVIDENCE that I am part of this society. Continue reading →
Psalm 76:1-2 In JUDAH God is known; his name is great in ISRAEL. His tent is in SALEM, his dwelling-place in ZION.
Does God have a meeting place? Where did you or do you meet with God? Even though we might not realize it, when we come to meet with God, we meet Him…in either of these four places mentioned in Psalm 76.
In JUDAH God is known…represents your first meeting place with God…where you recognize that you are a sinner in need of a Saviour. It is by KNOWING and calling upon that name that you receive salvation. Judah, in other words represent the PERSONAL MEETING PLACE BETWEEN GOD AND AN INDIVIDUAL.
John 17:26 I have made you known to them and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.
Joel 2:32 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved; for on the Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the Lord has said, among the survivors whom the Lord calls.
His Name is great in ISRAEL….represents the place where God meets you, not as an individual but as a part of a nation. Abraham met God as an individual…but his descendants, Israel down in Egypt meet Him as a nation. He addressed and dealt with them, as a nation. Hence, in other words, ISRAEL represents THE CORPORATE MEETING PLACE BETWEEN GOD AND NATIONS.
Isaiah 44:6 This is what the Lord says_ Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty: I am the FIRST and I am the LAST; apart from me there is NO GOD. Continue reading →
Proverbs 18:22 He who finds a wife finds a GOOD THING and receives FAVOR FROM THE LORD.
I guess every country has its own traditions when it comes to the wedding cards. But back at home, in Kenya, my native country, we have this expectation that on the wedding card there is always a scripture verse chosen by the couple to-be, as their wedding motto. Of the many wedding cards I have come across, I did notice that many couples chose the above scripture for their new marriage covenant. And for many reasons than not, I DO LOVE THIS SCRIPTURE VERSE. For one, it is a scripture more husband-directed than wife. Secondly, its a scripture that comes with two sure declarations from the Lord: A GOOD THING AND FAVOR.
A wife is a GOOD THING….because she is a gift from God to man.
Genesis 2:18 The Lord God said, “It is NOT GOOD for man to be alone. I will make a HELPER suitable for him.”
A wife is GOOD THING….because she came from man.
Genesis 2:22 Then the Lord God made woman from the rib he had taken OUT OF THE MAN, and he brought her to the man.Continue reading →
Matthew 5:27 ‘You have heard that it was said, Do not commit adultery. But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman LUSTFULLY has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Let me start here with a true story. Many years ago, when I was a baby Christian, there was a couple who I really admired and looked up to. From outside, their marriage looked so beautiful and genuine and of course, naturally I wanted to have what they had; A marriage built on love, tenderness and a quiet respect. Then one day, my innocence was brutally violated when I found out that he, the husband was having an affair with his wife’s best friend. For days and weeks, I pondered as my heart ached if to tell her what I knew or not. Without the courage to face her, I cut and ran. Oh…you have to forgive me…but that’s what I did! Hoping against hope, I prayed privately for their marriage to find a common ground for healing and restoration but it was never to be. Many years down the road, the marriage came to an END, a very painful end!
And while I still have no answer to the question if I should have intervened then or not, I know that Jesus did intervene in the issue of INFIDELITY. No…he did not give us a foundation for divorce or how we should deal with others infidelity…but rather, when He spoke about adultery, He was addressing the married couples. You see, until you are married…or you are single dealing with a married person, you might not think much about infidelity. INFIDELITY in marriage as Jesus puts it, starts not as we know it…that is, the actual bed act…but rather with A LOOK….yes, THAT LOOK!Continue reading →
