I have posted watchmen on your wall, O Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the Lord, give yourselves no rest and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth. Isaiah 62:6-7
There is one thing that Jerusalem is not … not yet – THE PRAISE OF THE EARTH. But it’s just a matter of time and what we only read in the Bible will one day become a FACT. Yes…. JERUSALEM. Its now a little over a week when the Lord first impressed these words into my heart. Of course, I pray for Jerusalem. But it’s an off and on kind of praying. I pray when I remember or when I see unrest in the Middle East.
The Lord began showing me His desire…. for a FULL HOUSE.
Salvation first belongs to the Jew, then to the Gentile. The bread is for the children and the breadcrumbs are for the others. The glory is theirs, the light of revelation is ours. You see, without a FULL HOUSE, we cannot quite grasps the fullness of GOD. Until JERUSALEM is established….we are not there yet. Pray for her…. PRAY FOR JERUSALEM.… the City of God .
Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was RAHAB, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was RUTH, Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David. Matthew 1:5-6
The Gospel of Matthew begins the life of Jesus with his geneology. It introduces Jesus backwards by way of showing us his lineage. And while some women are mentioned along with their husbands in his geneology, two of them particularly stands out. RAHAB and RUTH. They are part of Our Lord’s earthly lineage not by accident, but AGAINST THE ODDS.
You see, both of them were foreigners; one a prostitute and the other, a widow. In the natural, where they were in life seemed prove enough of the future they were likely to face. Rahab must have already given up hope of ever finding a man who could love her for who she really was. She knew that she was no husband material. Ruth on the other hand, had clung to her mother-in-law, Naomi out of a deep loyalty as a way of honoring what she had with her son. No, another marriage was nowhere near her mind.
But AGAINST THE ODDS, the Lord brought opportunity in both their lives which needed a RADICAL OBEDIENCE. And although as foreigners God was as much removed from their everyday reality as can possibly be, when opportunity came knocking they both obeyed without a second thought.
Maybe that you today….God is asking you to do something AGAINST THE ODDS. There are no promises of a grand future….but that might just be what you might miss by not OBEYING. It might be someone in your lineage…they laid the foundation against the odds and now you are reaping the harvest. God wants you and I to look backwards and be thankful for those against the odds moments and He is also calling us to go ahead and do the right thing against the odds to give the future generation something to look back as Our Lord Jesus did and hence move forward with a grateful heart, against the odds.
Matthew 27:55 Many WOMEN were there, watching from a distance. There had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for his needs.
It is Good Friday. But 2000 years ago, they didn’t quite call it that. Yes, the WOMEN who had been following Jesus as he was moved from one courthouse to another must have had their worst nightmare ever. They had seen Jesus being betrayed by the very crowd that had stood out the week before calling out ‘HOSANNA IN THE HIGHEST’ as he passed through their city. It must have been frightening to see such a quick change of heart from the crowd. But inspite of all this, the WOMEN had remained true to their calling…. TO MINISTER to the needs of their LORD!
Yes…as you remember that GOOD FRIDAY…. remember those WOMEN and consider their courage. Remember the sick, the hungry, the lost…and the unlovable. Remember that the Lord needs…YOU & ME just as he did 2000 years ago. And yes…this will be another GOOD FRIDAY in the making.
For the last 3 days, I have been EMOTIONAL….yes, I am full of GOOD EMOTIONS. And while I do not know how to express them through this computer screen…one thing is for sure. My EMOTIONS at this point in time can only equal the emotions of these TWO VERY EMOTIONAL WOMEN in the bible. So…I will borrow their words…to express my own emotions as well as theirs!
HANNAH…THE BARREN ONE.
She was married to a wonderful husband but couldn’t bear him children. She was constantly mocked and ridiculed by her co-wife. But finally, God heard her prayer and opened her womb. She became the mother of Samuel…one of the greatest prophets in the Old Testament.
1 Samuel 2:1-10 Then Hannah prayed and said: “My heartREJOICESin the Lord; in the Lord my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance. ‘There is no-one holy like the Lord; there is no-one besides you; there is no Rock like our God. ‘Do not keep talking such arrogance, for the Lord is a God who knows, and by him deeds are weighed. ‘The bows of the warriors are broken, but those who stumbled are armed with strength. Those whose were full hire themselves out for food, but THOSE WHO WERE HUNGRY HUNGER NO MORE. SHE WHO WAS BARREN HAS BORNE SEVEN CHILDREN, but she who has many sons pines away. ‘The Lord brings death and makes alive; he brings to the grave and raises up. ‘The Lord sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts. HE RAISES THE POOR Continue reading →
Proverbs 31:28-29 Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and her praises her: ‘Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.”
Today…is Mother’s day! I have the privilege and honour of being one of your wonderful eight children, whom you birthed and raised to be responsible, loving and caring sons and daughters. On their behalf, I want to say thank you for your constant love, encouragement and faith in each one of us, as individuals and as part of the family. You deserve more than we can possibly offer you in return in this life…and my greatest prayer and desire is that God…will reward your labor of motherly love on that day which you truly deserved.
Meanwhile, I pray that your days will be filled with laughter, joy and peace as your remain in Him and as your bask in the glow of an ever enlarging family…which includes…a new SON-IN-LAW just yesterday, husband to your youngest daughter. Continue reading →
Luke 21:1-4 As he looked up, Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a POOR WIDOW put in two VERY SMALL COPPER COINS. ‘I tell you THE TRUTH,” he said “this poor widow has put MORE THAN ALL THE OTHERS. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she OUT OF HER POVERTY put in all she had to live on.”
It is just but a little over 6 months since I started this blog. This morning, as my hands were busy doing the dishes, my mind was also busy wandering here and there. How I had managed to keep up with the pace of posting is only by the GRACE OF GOD. And yes, partly because of a blogger friend, Elaine Davenport, who stood by me…urging me on. A month or so before I started this blog, someone I had thought of as a friend suddenly turned their back on me and my family….and caused us much harm. If she had stopped there, maybe it would have been different. But no, she took it upon herself…to cause damage on relationships I had established with others…whom she had come to know through my friendship with her. And after all the pain and heartache she had caused, I forgave her….and moved on.
But…I was not the same person. Then again, two weeks later, after I ventured into the blogging world, another painful blow happened to me. But this time, even though it was as painful as the first one, I refused to be shaken. No…I had nothing except CHRIST to hold on to! And each day, despite the battle within…I kept writing. I kept giving….more than I had. I kept going…believing, hoping against hope. Some days, I had wings, but most, my hands felt feeble and weak. I never stopped. I don’t know why, but I kept going! Luke 1:46-48 And Mary said: ‘My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me BLESSED,
First of all, what does it mean to HONOR someone? HONOR can be defined as: personal integrity; allegiance to moral principles; GREAT RESPECT, ESTEEM; a woman’s chastity; out of respect; to hold in respect: TO CONFER A DISTINCTION UPON etc.
Hence…that said. Is it right for the believer to hold Mary, the mother of Jesus in esteem? If yes. Why do you think we should? If not. Why do you disagree? I would love to hear your thoughts on this one! As for me, I personally hold Mary in great esteem and these are my reasons: Continue reading →
Luke 7:37-38 When a woman who had lived a sinful life in that town learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster jar of perfume, and as she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with HER TEARS. Then she wiped them with HER HAIR, kissed them and poured perfume on them.
EXTRAVAGANT is defined in my Collins dictionary as: spending money excessively or immodestly; GOING BEYOND USUAL BOUNDS; UNRESTRAINED; Ostentatious or showy; EXORBITANT IN PRICE; overpriced.
Before I start, I wish to pass my well wishes to all my fellow women readers as the world celebrates the INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY today. To all of you out there...YOU ARE LOVED AND PRECIOUS IN HIS EYES.
And with that note, let’s have a look at the story of a woman in Jesus’ earthly life. Its most probable that you have heard or read, or been preached to, the story of the WOMAN WITH AN ALABASTER BOX OF PERFUME. But until yesterday, I had never seen this side of the story before. So here in the UGLY TRUTH.
The woman in the story is a PROSTITUTE. That means…she earned her living by selling her body in exchange for money. Hence, it is most likely that her ALABASTER JAR OF PERFUME was bought with money from her immoral trade. But wait a minute. Why in the world would Jesus accept to be anointed by her knowing how she had obtained the jar of perfume? But here is the WHOLESOME TRUTH.Continue reading →
Matthew 27:55 -56 MANY WOMEN were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to CARE FOR HIS NEEDS. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary, the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee’s sons.
We live in the era of GENDER EQUALITY. Women, just like men want to be recognized as equal partners and players in the development of our societies. And while this century has given women the opportunity to prove themselves in different fields, there is a place for the woman which has not changed over the years. Yes, each woman no matter what they are professionally has a MINISTRY. And this is every more true for the CHRISTIAN WOMAN. Below are just but a few ministry callings in the bible which are still relevant and necessary for today’s woman. Continue reading →
Genesis 18:12-14 SO SHE LAUGHED to herself as she thought, “After I am worn out and my master is old, will I now have this pleasure?” Then the Lord said to Abraham, ‘Why did Sarah LAUGH and say, “Will I really have a child, now that I am old?’ Is anything TOO HARD FOR THE LORD? I will return to you at the APPOINTED TIME next year and Sarah will have a son.”
Yes, we almost always associate laughter with pleasure and a good sense of humor. But no, not so in Sarah’s account. Then, why did she laugh? If you were placed in her shoes, what would be your reaction at such unexpected news? I must admit, I would react the same. Why, because I believe Sarah did not laugh out of PLEASURE, but rather out of FEAR.Continue reading →
