THE ANOINTING THIEF

Acts 8:18-20 When Simon saw that the SPIRIT was given at the laying on of the APOSTLES’ HANDS, he offered them money and said, ‘GIVE ME ALSO THIS ABILITY so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” Peter answered, “May your money perish with you, because you thought you can buy the GIFT OF GOD WITH MONEY!

You may or may not have encountered an Anointing thief. I am talking about the HOLY SPIRIT anointing. Let me explain. Counterfeit anointing…is something that is almost as old as the world itself. Even during the time of Pharaoh’s dreams in Egypt.

Genesis 41:7-8 …Then Pharaoh woke up; it had been a dream. In the morning his mind was troubled, so he sent for all the MAGICIANS and WISE MEN of Egypt. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but no-one could interpret them for him.

And long before Jesus had come on earth, God had given these instructions to the children of Israel regarding the ANOINTING THIEVES.

Leviticus 19:27, 31…”Do not practise DIVINATION OR SORCERY. Do not turn to MEDIUMS or seek out SPIRITISTS, for you will be defiled by them, I am the Lord, your God.

Centuries down the road, after Jesus had ascended back to the Father, we meet Simon the Sorcerer who for a long time had managed to amaze and mesmerize the people of Samaria with his magical powers. But one day, Phillip happened to be in town. Before he knew it…his magical powers had been undone by Phillip’s preaching of the Good News of the Kingdom of God. And Simon too believed and was baptised. But as he followed Phillip around and witnessed the great signs and wonders he performed, he got astonished. But no…not in a godly manner. Of course, he had been used to been given the same kind of treatment by the people of Samaria because of his magic.

But the greatest threat to his position of power came when He saw the apostles lay hands on the people to receive the anointing. And yes, he knew the POWER that was passed on by the laying of hands was more superior than his. And so…without willing to trade his previous magical powers, he offered the apostles money in exchange for the superior power…that is THE REAL ANOINTING!

Do you get it? There are people out there who claim to be Christ followers, who seem to have successful ministries marked with signs and wonders…but the Word warns us about such people. They are the ANOINTING THIEVES.

2 Thessalonians 2:9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of COUNTERFEIT MIRACLES, SIGNS AND WONDERS,

How then can you know if the miracles are from God…or counterfeit? Simple.
The gift of God cannot be received through the exchange of money. Miracles, signs and wonders are and ought to be free. Do not defile the gift of God with money. There is a very high price to pay for the counterfeit miracles…and ultimately…it might cost you, your eternal destiny with God.

Be careful; Be vigilant; and above all, always inquire of the Lord in all matters!

God bless you.

  1. Hello I just found you sight on searching the internet I had an experience a few months ago in the spirit realm I had been sent to help a church that when you walk in the pastor would not speak with an anointing you could not feel God’s presence it was like a valley of dry bones I brought another pastor in with me and gradually the praise and worship of God got greater in the House then the anointing in time would be restored to the pastor of said church as we lay hands on him but one day during a service the pastor wanted to give me a hug but what was weird was he grabbed me on both sides in a bear hug and acted like he was breaking me left to right and i felt a heat come from him I did not feel any anointing no presence of God and then felt really drained and could not feel God for a few weeks it took fasting and prayer and I also had to have two different pastors come to anoint me and my home with oil and the anointing gradually came back but the pastor of said church tried to do that to me again since and I pulled away do you feel he is an anointing thief I also have heard him speaking of wanting to bring the satanic bible in the church to read to defeat the powers of hell I dont feel thats needed because the Holy ghost of God allows us to resist the devil even to cast out demons and lay on hands for healing etc.please give me your take on said situation

  2. Gladwell, this post was written in answer to a question I have been dealing with internally. A friend, who seems to wish to serve God and leads a group of study is frequently telling everyone he is anointed, has gifts others do not, and it has alienated others in the group. My thinking about anointing is that if you are anointed, it is between the Holy Spirit, God and you. The anointing will show in your actions, your love, and all else that you do. You do not need to tell people you are anointed.
I know it is a bit different than what you wrote, about him trying to buy an anointing, but I thought relevant anyway. God Bless

    • Jim,

Thank you for sharing that bit too…in fact, it is more relevant to this topic than you might think. I agree with you. One who is anointed…does not go around tell others that he is anointed. You see…the anointing is to be shared freely not as a means for personal gain…but for the encouragement and edification to the body of Christ. If someone thinks he is something…then he ought to sober up and examine themselves again in the light of the Word.

      God bless you!

Thats a powerpacked post…well needed during our lifetime…In this world, where everything is available in duplicates…its scary to choose something…not knowing whats the original…If one has expereinced the real anointing…you will know the counterfeit. Such counterfeit will always be done for the wrong reasons.Thank you for that powerful word.

    God Bless,
    Rani
