Genesis 43:33 The men had been seated before him in the order of their ages, from the firstborn to the youngest; and they looked at each other in astonishment. When the portions were served to them from Joseph’s table, BENJAMIN’S PORTION was FIVE TIMES as much as anyone else’s. So they feasted and drink freely with him.
We all know the story of Joseph’s reunion with his brothers in Egypt. And while the story is incredible in itself, a perfect example of forgiveness for us to follow, in those few lines above I saw something I had never seen before. BENJAMIN’S PORTION.
But before I expound on this one, let me give you a little background about BENJAMIN.
Benjamin was the second and last son of JACOB AND RACHEL.
Benjamin was given the name Ben-Oni by his mother Rachel but his father changed it to Benjamin.
Benjamin’s birth was difficult and his mother Rachel died immediately after he was born.
Benjamin was born on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem) and his mother was buried there.
But the most important of all these facts is that, BENJAMIN was the only son borne to Jacob after God had changed his name to ISRAEL. In other words, BENJAMIN WAS THE FIRST AND ONLY SON OF ISRAEL.
So here is the truth about Benjamin. Benjamin which means SON OF MY RIGHT HAND represents YOU and ME. Before his name was changed to Benjamin, his first name BEN-ONI which means SON OF MY TROUBLE represented the fallen man born in sin. But when his father changed his name into BENJAMIN, he represented the redeemed man born of God. Like Benjamin, when you and I are born of God, our portion in life is no longer like that of our brothers. Note what the Word says… Benjamin’s portion was FIVE TIMES as much. Five represents the number of grace. For you as a child of God…YOU HAVE A PORTION OF GRACE. God has given you favor to overcome evil, to live victoriously, to believe unwaveringly, to share generously, to love unconditionally and much more.
Romans 12:6-8 We have different gifts according to the GRACE GIVEN US. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him us it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.
I Corinthians 3:10 By the GRACE GOD HAS GIVEN ME, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building it. But EACH ONE should be careful how he builds.
Ephesian 4: 7 But to each one of us GRACE HAS BEEN GIVEN AS CHRIST APPORTIONED IT.
Is your Father, THE GOD OF ISRAEL? Then be assured of your portion of grace and blessings as you fully commit your ways to Him. I HAVE MY PORTION OF GRACE to share with you always!
Thank you for so grace-fully feeding us today! 🙂 Your friend in Christ! deb
Deb,
I am just doing my portion as He enables me by His Spirit. Thank you for your encouragement.
Love, Gladwell
I like the way you worded this replay Gladwell. “I am just doing my portion as He enables me by His Spirit.”
God bless
Thank you Gladwell,
I had never seen this explained in this manner, or so well. One of your many Graces is in explaining the passages so Gracefully to others. Without His Graces, I am null and void, without form, shape color, or talent. The one who feeds the sparrows gives us all we need.
God Bless
Jim,
I agree with you. Without His graces, our Christian living would be next to impossible. I thank God that He distributes gifts to us, His children
God bless you.
Oh..Gladwell…thank you so much for this great post..I have read that verse many times, but it became more meaningful when you explained it…When we are born into God’s family, we are different..we are the promised ones..and not like the ones who are born naturally…and our share is according to the heaven’s standards…
Yes, I have my portion of Grace..
God Bless,
Rani
Rani,
Amen. We all have our portions in Our Father’s house. I remember what a friend told me once. That we have to eat from our own plate which the Lord has given each of us without looking over at another’s plate. And at the end of the day, God wants us to build each other up with the portions of grace He has given each one of us. I am doing my humble part.
Blessings and hugs,
Gladwell
Gladwell,
“I have my portion of Grace to share with you always.” Indeed. You are a wonderful teacher of the Word. Thanks. Godspeed, Elizabeth
Thank you Elizabeth. Without my portion…it would be impossible to even write a line or two. I am learning to depend on Him…even in this writing endeavor.
Blessings and hugs,
Gladwell
Hi Gladwell! Thank you so much. I thank God for His grace. I’ve been studying it lately…but I had not seen this! That’s what I like about God…so much fresh revelation all the time! Bless you! Love E
Hi Elaine,
He wants His children to have fresh manna everyday!
