DAUGHTERS OF SARAH

1 Peter 3:6 Like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her master. You are HER DAUGHTERS if you do what is right and do not give way to FEAR.

Like mother like daughter, goes the saying. But lets have a look into the case of Sarah. If she had lived in our day, I wonder if she would have posed as cover-girl for one of the style and fashion magazines? Sarah had qualities about her that attracted the male species time and again. But what was it? Was it a well-trimmed body, with make up and jewelry that made her stand out in the crowd? I doubt it. While it is true, Sarah was a very beautiful woman, there was something else about her that made her irresistible: HER NAME.

You see, before God had changed her name to Sarah, she was just an ordinary woman…that is Sarai. She did things her own way. In fact, based on fear, she forced Abraham to take her slave girl Hagar to enable her to have children. And for sometime, she seemed to have won through taking things in her hands. However, as soon as Hagar got pregnant, she began to despise her. And things got out of hand. But God’s promise to Abraham had not changed. It was through Sarah that God’s promise to him was to be established. After waiting for a further 13 years, God finally showed up. Abraham got a new name…from Abram to ABRAHAM meaning father of many. Sarah, whose initial name was Sarai got a new name too. SARAH, her new name meant PRINCESS. Suddenly, Sarah understood. With her new name, she got back HER DIGNITY, IDENTITY and CONFIDENCE, something she had lacked for all those years. In addition to her outward or visible beauty, her act of submitting to Abraham, HER MASTER made her even the more IRRESISTIBLE. A year on, Abraham was the proud father of a baby born, Isaac.

You ask. What is in a name? Trust me…everything and much more. Until you know WHO and WHOSE you are, you will always struggle. Are you a daughter of Sarah? Then this is true of you: YOU ARE A PRINCESS. Are you confident of your beauty? Then this is true of you: YOU HAVE AN UNFADING BEAUTY OF A GENTLE AND QUIET SPIRIT. Submission means letting yourself be under the authority of another without the fear of losing your identity, confidence and dignity of WHO you are and WHOSE you are.

To the Christian wife: SUBMIT TO YOUR HUSBAND, because this is of great worth in God’s sight.

  1. After reading your post, tears came to my eyes for I am Sarah. This is my name; however, I was not always proud to have this as my identity. Not until I truly discovered to whom I belonged, though, did I realize the value of living as a “Sarah”–living as a princess of Christ with eyes gazing upon true beauty that comes from a heart dwelling in Christ’s love.

Thank you so much for the encouraging words. You have a gift, and I pray that you will continue to be blessed 🙂

    Sarah

    • Hi Sarah. I am so glad to hear from you. Yes, you are a PRINCESS…in HIM. Don’t be downcast…put your hope in the LORD and rest. I read your article today too. Thanks for your words and honestly.

      Blessings and hugs,

      Gladwell

  2. There is so much in a name. That is so true. God transforms names. Makes me think of Paul and Samuel. I need to think through what new names would be for me.

    Thanks for this!
