Habakkuk 3:17-18 Though the fig-tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, YET I WILL rejoice in the Lord, I WILL be joyful in God my Saviour.

What a bold declaration! YET I WILL…are words we prefer to avoid when we are going tough times. Let’s face it: Here is Prophet Habakkuk. In his mouth is lament. He is asking God that million dollar question…LORD, WHEN? It seems things prophesied are taking too long to come to pass. As a prophet…the mandate of prophecy has been passed down to him. Just like other prophets…HE IS WAITING TO SEE THE RESTORATION OF JUSTICE AND PEACE. But instead, he sees violence and conflicts and injustice prevailing.

But while in the state of complaint, God comes to his rescue. No…not in the way he expected. As always, God’s ways are not our ways. “Habakkuk,’ God says to him…’take a journal and start taking notes…because in TIME, I will show up and mark my words. I WILL NOT BE A MOMENT LATER THAN EXPECTED!’ So, Habakkuk takes the task to heart and a pen and paper…or whatever and begins noting down the events of his day.

Before long...HIS LAMENT…in ink and paper turned into something greater than the happenings around him. Suddenly, HE REALIZED the fame of God was not gone with the days. God was still ALIVE AND WELL. HIS CREATION STILL SPOKE OF HIS GREATNESS…the sun, the moon, the earth, the rivers, the mountains…all stood in awe of HIM. HIS GLORY FILLED THE HEAVENS AND HIS PRAISE FILLED THE EARTH. And by the time Habakkuk was coming to the end of his journaling experience…he had given up his complaint.
Instead…he learned to acknowledge fact without bitterness and look at the future with the eyes of faith.

Perhaps like Habakkuk…this year may have been full of injustices, violence and conflict for some of you as individuals, or family or as a nation. The hurts and ache of an unfulfilled year has dulled your sight. Maybe, you will be ending the year with a…’though it does not…’ kind of issues in your life. And while you may not have had control over the things that may have happened or didn’t happen in your life, you have this at your disposal. YET I a choice you can make. CHOOSING TO REJOICING in spite of your circumstances is something which God values more than you can imagine.

THE LORD IS YOUR STRENGTH...not your position.
THE LORD IS YOUR PROMOTER...not your abilities or talents.
THE LORD IS YOUR DANCING PARTNER…so put on your dancing shoes and let the LORD STILL YOUR HEART!

  1. Good words Gladwell. Interesting you use the verse from Habakkuk that you use. 2:3 has been a promise that I have seen fulfilled over and over through this stormy period of my life. Before it is too late, He provides. I have to admit, I am a little weary of having to go to the edge of the cliff so often, but He has always come through.
