Psalms 34:12-14 Whoever of you LOVES LIFE and DESIRES TO SEE MANY GOOD DAYS, keep YOUR TONGUE from evil and your lips from speaking lies. Turn from evil and do good; SEEK PEACE and PURSUE IT.

A good diet and regular exercise will ensure you a long and healthy life, the experts says. And I do partly agree with them. You and I know that you are what you eat…or rather…your physically body is a reflection of what you eat. But not so when it comes to one’s soul.

A few days ago, I had a conversation with a good friend of mine. She had just come back from the funeral of a long time college friend. His, was a sad story, one which got me thinking. You see, for 25 years, he faithfully dedicated his life working for this particular institution. For him, his work was his ‘second home.’ Then things began changing…the institution started hiring young, fresh from college graduates…with new innovations and ideas. And of course, for a 50 something year old guy like him, with little to offer but just some good old advice, he found himself under constant fire. The younger ones ridiculed him at every turn of the corner. Whatever he did was no longer good enough and with most of his older generation already sent off on early retirement, he had no one to stand by him. Words, they say can break no bones…but they broke his heart. After months of enduring scorn…he finally succumbed to a major stroke and died.

At his funeral, they chose one of the young one…the same one who ridiculed him to his death to read the his work eulogy. The words spoken of him were beautiful beyond description…but yes…if only he had heard those words while he was still alive…HE WOULD PROBABLY BE ALIVE!

Yes, words have the power to heal or wound beyond repair. And while its good to watch what we eat…IT IS MOST IMPORTANT TO WATCH WHAT COMES FROM OUR LIPS…because a good life, full of many good days is associated with the fruit of our lips.

My challenge goes out to you, as a Christian. What are your lips offering? Are you a peace seeker? ALWAYS REMEMBER: The LORD IS WATCHING YOUR MOUTH PRINT!!!!

  1. Yes, remember the old childhood saying. “sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me”

    How untrue!

    God says, “words kill”

We all have been injured by words!!
