Philippians 3:13 Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead, I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God had called me heavenwards in Christ Jesus. NIV

Most men I know love football with one exception…MY OWN HUSBAND. Anyway, the footballing season is drawing to an end and the best teams are soon set to play off. Hardwork has been going on behind the scene…the training sessions are more intensive than ever. The coach finally lines up his squad…THE BEST OF THE BEST; the goalkeeper, the defender, the midfielder and of course, the striker.

The day arrrives; Saturday night. Tickets have long sold out, the fans dressed colourfully for each team they support starts streaming in. The air is so thick with excitement. Suddenly, the competing teams begin emerging from the warm-up rooms. Among them is also their coaches, managers and medical doctors. And of course, there is the referee without whom the game can’t go on and his linesmen as his extra eyes. Everyone know the rules of the game…or at least fair play. Then the first whistle goes out and the ball starts rolling…the euphoria in the crowd is magical!

But wait a sec…for a fact, you are part of the game…THE GAME OF LIFE. You know the rules. The coach has done a good job…he knows your weak points and your strengths. He has seen you discouraged many a times and has also shared some of your greatest victories. In case you may ask…the coach is GOD. On one hand, the referee also knows the rules of life…but he may not know you…at least not on a personal level. Your only contact with him is on the field in public. Yes, the referee are all the people who may know you casually, personally or even intimately. But all the same, they can’t quite tell fully who you are. What they’ve missed THE COACH knew long before you became a player, and the champion they see in you was long determined by the COACH. Men, before you give up on the game of life…remember THE COACH will never give you on you. So press on towards the prize, in JESUS NAME.
