LOVE WITHOUT A FACE

I Corinthian 13:1-3 And now I will show you the most excellent way. If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have no love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysterious and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have no love, I AM NOTHING. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have no love, I GAIN NOTHING.

The first scenario; Imagine yourself in a church service on Sunday morning. The pastor then introduces one of the missionaries from a third world country. The slide start running showing the desperate faces of malnourished children…the outstanding bones in their small frame makes you cry and moves you to dig deep into your pocket. Without thinking much you write out a fat check. A life or two are saved by your giving!

The second scenario; Your next door neighbor for many years has just lost their job. Money is running short. Bills are piling, the mortgage payment is overdue and time is working against them. You know their situation prefectly. But here is the problem. You start calculating…what will a few bucks do for them? Their need goes beyond just a simple meal to keep them alive, you reason. But wait a minute.

You see, for most of us, we like to love without responsibility. We want to love without accountability. Hence, we quickly act to save a desperate situation like that starving child but slowly consider and reconsider before we involve ourselves in a long term situation. I pray that you and me will desire to love differently….i.e LOVING WITH A FACE. God bless you.

  1. This is so true…so on time. Thank you. God is moving my heart in this direction to be far more compassionate and much less self serving. Great. Lanie
